Contact A Paralegal

Unread post by Chickila »

How much does it typically cost to use a paralegal in the case of careless driving?

First turn over each ticket and read the instructions on the back to request a trial. Then do it! You only have 15 days. This will buy you time to do your research and prepare.

Second, please site exactly what you were charged with (which sections i.e. HTA 130).

Third most of the information the cops told you is misleading. Paralegals are licensed and regulated in Ontario and not just anyone can be a paralegal. The careless driving charge is severe and extremely difficult to prove (especially without a witness.) Yes they will offer you a following too closely charge at trial because they know they won't be able to convict you of careless. Why would you plead guilty to something when you can be acquitted of the original charge?

Fourth, you did not provide details of what happened BEFORE the crash. So the charge may be warranted based on the evidence the other driver gave. Make sure you request disclosure to find out exactly what he said.

Finally the other charges sound like they are based on a technicality - not providing insurance, underestimating the damage... These charges will likely be dropped in a plea bargain to get you to plead guilty to something. Be prepared for that.

OK you just deleted your original post and your reply. Not sure why??

A paralegal will cost $400+.

Your situation (the deleted reply) is much worse than first described. It doesn't sound like the interview went well and you may have made some incriminating statements to the cops. In your case I would strongly recommend getting some professional representation.
