The video clearly shows the light turning amber way before you even hit the Esso station entrance.
As I see it, the video definitely shows you running a red light. And I'd say you had plenty of time to stop for the amber. Sorry.
That said, I don't know whether this will trigger a red light camera ticket. The light seems to turn red a split second after your car crossed into the intersection.

Re: Affects of tire size?
Narrower tires cut through snow better, but it's the overall diameter that you don't want to change to avoid affecting the speedometer.george__ wrote:Aren't smaller tires better for the winter?

Re: Should I or should I not report him?
As I understand it, a "hit and run" claim will be counted as an "at fault" collision by your insurance company. At least that's how it is with my insurance company. Consider that if you plan to file a claim to have it repaired. I'm not sure whether the police will automatically notify your insurance company, as you already reported the incident to them. You already reported the kid's actions to the police. IMO, it's too bad you didn't catch his license plate number so he could be caught and charged for failing the remain. I don't see why you'd care to save him any bother. I...

Re: Faded License Plate
Here something to think about. If the Ontario and the Queen's crown on your plate are still their original blue colour than likely you will lose in a court of law. I have seen all around the city people driving with tampered license plates. How do I know they are tampered? Well looking closely at the tag ID (that your letters and numbers) you can see a chemical film around the tag ID. Some the other cars I have seen are in the early stages as the chemical itself is grey in colour. You have to remember it a privilege to drive in country and NOT your right. So if you you are really innocent you...

Re: no rear seats / baby seat question
I'm pretty sure that is perfectly legal.
I own a Miata 2-seater which is equipped with a switch to disable the passenger airbag. My kids are older now, but when they needed to use a baby/booster seat, I would install it and switch off the airbag. Never had a problem.
What other choice do you have, anyways? Stick 'em in the trunk...?

Re: What is correct charge: Crashing into parked car?
Hello. I agree carless would be harsh; not that it matters though as people are charged with it all the time for small transgressions such as this. If the other driver is accepting responsibility, and perhaps offering to fix the damage, is a charge even necessary? I don't think every collision should result in a charge, or become a matter for police involvement if people can work out an agreement. I trust that frequently people learn the needed lesson; when charges are then laid too, it costs the system a lot to collect the $110 for the ticket, and people learn additional lessons....like not ...

What is correct charge: Crashing into parked car?
The other day my car was (lawfully) parallel parked on the street near my office. It was the last in a long line of parked cars, and there was a good 3 feet or so between it and the car in front.
The person parked directly ahead of my car went to exit her parking spot. As she backed up, she crashed into the front of my car. Not terribly fast, but hard enough that her SUV rode up on top of my bumper and caused about $500-600 damage to my car.
What would be the correct HTA offense to apply in this case? Careless driving seems a bit harsh, but is there a more appropriate charge?

Re: Question about getting into an accident when turning lef
Intuitively I would tend to agree with you that the person overtaking should be completely at fault, as the maneuver obviously could not be done in safety; however, the fault determination rules don't agree. The situation you describe seems to perfectly match what's outlined in Section 10 (6) Rules for Automobiles Travelling in the Same Direction in Adjacent Lane, found on page 8 of the following PDF: http://www.ibc.ca/en/car_insurance/documents/brochure/on-fault-determination-rules.pdf (6) If the incident occurs when automobile "A" is turning left at a private road or a driveway and...

Re: Anything I can do? *have dashcam* *rear end collision*
Ended up going viral on facebook. Here is the crash http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_QLaHhpPk48osCbdZv-OxEmGoEmFHI7Q I was not purposely following the driver... Was going to work Thanks Hard to tell exactly given the fisheye lens, but you looked to be driving much faster than the 40 km/h posted limit. You seemed to be gaining on the pickup truck at a steady rate throughout the drive. It looked to me like the pickup driver "brake checked" you. Not sure why he stopped completely in the middle of the road. Maybe he was trying to send you a message about speeding, as the neighbou...

Re: Got charged.
See...? I told ya so... I have read your posts and from my count this is the SEVENTH vehicle you have damaged in almost 6 months. Each time you still maintain that youre a good driver and were "distracted" by one thing to another. I dont think people on this site want to give you advice anymore because our roads are much safer without you on them. The worst part is you still think you havent done anything wrong. If you read the details I'm not at fault in many of them ... MsDeeya, if you weren't at fault, why were you charged three times with careless driving? ( TIP: This is a rhetor...

Re: Got charged.
...Also, you never mentioned what the charge was. Seeing how you already have 3 careless driving charges in a couple months as a G2 driver (novice sanctions), you aren't going to have a license for much longer anyways. You are going to have a hard time getting insurance also. Seems like you haven't really learned anything and maybe it's for the best. Amen to that!! Assuming she's told us everything, this is MsDeeya's FOURTH at-fault collision since Nov 2013!!! Holy cow!! What do you wanna bet she's gonna tell us that she's really a very skilled and attentive driver, and is nothing more than a...

Re: 3rd careless driving. Help
WOW!! What a story! Let me see if I've got this straight... You are an inexperienced driver (G2 license) who has been involved in three collisions and been charged three times with Careless Driving in just 3½ months. Your first accident occurred on or about Nov 6, 2013. You lost control of your own vehicle when someone opened his car door in front of you and you struck two additional parked cars... Your second accident occurred on or about Nov 23, 2013. I found it hard to understand what you were trying to describe, but it read to me that you turned left at a T junction (where you didn't have ...

This subject has been discussed here upteen times before. Suggest you read through some of the other posts as background.
I'd also suggest you read this article which gives a good overview of the whole subject of collisions and careless driving charges: http://www.guelphmercury.com/news-story ... y-to-drive

My understanding is that shopping mall parking lots are private property and, therefore, are not subject to the Highway Traffic Act. I suspect you saw a security guard, but exactly what she was doing noting license plate numbers is a mystery to me.

Re: Careless Driving WTF I couldn't have been any more Caref
So from what I've been reading here it seems that the "Careless" Charge is being tossed around like confetti at a party tying up the court systems for what to try to get higher convictions for lesser charges? FYI, the following article covers the topic of the careless driving charge being applied indiscriminately: http://www.guelphmercury.com/news-story/2693103-careless-driving-charge-could-total-your-ability-to-drive That article pretty much sums it up. In my layman opinion, the problem with "careless driving" as defined in the HTA is that it is far too generic and the pe...
