plea bargain
I have direct knowledge of a red light HTA 144/18 that was reduced to disobeying lane light HTA 144/10 ($85.00+$30.00 and no points). It seems a lot depends on your driving record. The better it is the better deal you get. If someone is receiving tickets on a regular basis the province tends to look...

Icon Location Number and small town Ontario
Thanks Biron, for your insights. We live in too small a town to give out that info. I do think that people who live in larger centres have no idea what goes on in these smaller areas. I posted my "results" in the post titled "officer's narrative style in disclosure". If you feel ...

officer's narrative style in disclosure
Well, I had my day in court. Charged with a red light offence 144/18 ($325.00 + 3 points). Plead guilty to ignoring lane light 144/10, which I don't really understand ($115.00, no points). I think I made the right choice. Prior to this... Get ticket, choose to go to trial and filed for disclosure et...

check out this site for more info on wrong amount
I'm pretty sure the total cost on the HTA 144/18 charge is $325.00 ($260.00+$65.00) + 3 points. This amount was just changed in January-February 2010. Check out some of the previous posts on this site. I'm sure there is a very similar case regarding the wrong fine amount on a ticket. I think (just t...

you might be surprised
Thanks for responding Simon. Actually it's more than academic. I received a ticket (red light) where the officer said I should have been able to stop my car in 10 to 15' (from 50 km/h) when the light went from green to amber. Since that's impossible, the only way they could get a conviction would be...

Case law regarding a justice or prosecutor changing a charge
Does anyone know the specific law, statute, Charter right to refer to when a prosecutor or justice attempts to change the charge on a ticket after a trial has begun? I assume I'd object immediately (without interrupting anyone, of course) but what would be the specific legal basis of my objection?

braking distances accepted by courts
Can anyone point me to some data that will be accepted in Ontario Traffic Court regarding braking/stopping distances. It would be nice if it was something downloadable. I'm refuting a ticket where the officer claims I should have been able to stop a car going 50 km/h in 10 to 15 feet.
