So received ca call from a company called TSI asking me to call them back.
Quick Google search and they are a collection agency, but neither myself nor my wife, the only two people with a license to drive have any knowledge of any tickets issued to us.
What I like to know is if there is a way for me to check with the ministry or the police if there are any outstanding tickets that we are not aware of.

Re: Reduced 119 kmh in a posted 80 kmh, construction zone. Disclosure included
I think highwaystar said it very well. You received a very sweet deal, take it and run. Based on the disclosure, you won't win this case. The notes are well made and he has made note of when he tested his laser, had he not done that you would have a chance, but he did. Looks like you were stopped by a seasoned officer and he was very kind to you. As for your insurance, they consider any speeding ticket of 40 over posted speed limit a major ticket and anything less than 40 over a minor ticket. The old way of thinking "no points means no insurance impact" is no longer valid, a ticket f...

You could be fined in this case without demerit points. If the driver reports you, that is all the police needs to mail you a ticket, no video is required.

Re: Radar Detection and Line of Sight
An officer should and is trained to approximate a distance fairly closely. So if he is approximating 200 meters, logic would say plus or minus 20 meters, that is 10%. But 150 meters or 100 meters, that is way off. Having said that, the distance at which he clocked you is irrelevant, the question is if he had a clear line of sight, becaue: A. If he did not have a clear line of sight, he could not even see, much less clock you B. Radars measure on a straight line (again line of sight) so if you are not visible to the office, you are not visible to the radar. Going back to the fact that his appro...

Re: bicycle fails to trip green light sensor coil
After driving for over 3 decades, learned something new. I had no idea it is legal to make a left turn at a red light when turning from a one way street onto a one way street.Decatur wrote:If you're turning from a one way street to a one way street you can go left on a red light.

Re: Driver charged $240 ticket for 'unsecured load' of snow
Sounds to me the officer got creative, LOL. But you have to stop and think, how many times have you been driving on the highway and another driver is too lazy to clean the snow off their car and it blows all over and creates whiteout conditions? If you get stuck behind one you certainly understand that it creates dangerous situations. I have seen people drive with only a small section of their front windshield cleared and no peripheral vision, this made them make a right turn at a red light cutting me off and I nearly rear ended the guy, guess who would have been at fault? Me, even though I wa...

@Decatur I feel your pain, if it was me, I would look for any excuse just to write more tickets on these types of drivers. @bmcdon So true, I bet you are 100% correct. @bobajob I too use my hazard light flashing briefly when a trucker lets me in, that is what "professional" truckers do when us 4 wheelers pull back and allow them to make a lane change and they get the signal. You can always and easily tell the difference between a professional truck driver and a "wana be", the lather always follows people too closely and drives aggressively... I am surprised at all the comme...

Re: careless driving because pedestrian claims my car hit he
Is there any medical evidence of her injuries? She claims to be hit by you, was there any bruising? Any photos? Any medical report of her visiting ER? Who was the doctor that examined her? Which hospital did she go to? Who took her? Did the officer do any investigation to confirm validity of her story? Or did he take her word at face value? If it's your word against hers, I don't see how the JP can convict you without any shred of evidence, at the end of the day, the burden of proof still is on the prosecution and since the officer was not the witness it is much dicier than a regular traffic c...

Re: Speeding Poll
The problem here is not the law, it's how the speed limit is decided. As it's been mentioned earlier in the thread, we do not set the speed limit based on engineering facts, it's decided by a bunch of politicians. Some times it is to please the nagging group and get their vote and some times it is a simple money grab. Here is an example, Danforth Ave. over the DVP bridge, there is absolutely nothing there, no store front, no cross walk and a long stretch of wide street, speed limit 40 Km/h. A perfect speed trap, I am not sure when the speed limit was changed in this section of the road from 50...

Re: Automotive technological advancements and their impacts
The "automatic lights on" feature is available on some but not all cars and yes, it is not a good idea to become depended on it. My most recent car has this feature but I never use it. When I purchased my 2006 Mazda6, the sales person going over a five minute introduction of the car suggested I leave my lights on at all times, because the car has a feature that will shut off the lights after a minute or two and it will not drain my battery, this way I will not forget to turn on my lights in the dark. I personally ignored this and stuck to my old way of doing things, manually turn on ...

Automotive technological advancements and their impacts
Automotive manufacturers just like any other industry continue to make improvements and add new features to cars we drive in order to make them safer and more comfortable. As far back as 2006 manufacturers began to include fully lit instrument panel, even without the driver turning on their headlights, this was done to improve visibility of the gauges in sunny bright daylight. The problem with such improvements arise when drivers do not read the manual or understand how their vehicle functions. I have noticed a large increase of drivers operating their vehicle in the dark without turning on th...

Re: Cops can fix small errors on tickets after issuing them
I see York region is at it AGAIN, I find it interesting that York region the leader when it comes to fighting such cases tooth to nail. Anyway, just a small note to jsherk, London v. Young would still be a valid argument if you need to use it, in that case the tickets were not corrected. So if a ticket is filled with the court and it is incomplete, you can still use that case law. In this scenario the officers were "modifying" with the certificate of offence, that is really what it boils down to and the question of, are they allowed to? As you can see, according to our top court that...

Re: What if car is stopped at traffic light
Here are two things you may like to know: 1. According to prosecutor of York region, Ontario Court of Appeal has made a ruling that even if driver is stopped, as long as he/she was in an "alive lane" (as you were in this case) the offence has been committed. 2. I head on the radio news, do not have all the details, the lady came to a stop at the traffic light, this caused her phone to slide and fall on the floor of the car from the passenger seat next to her, she picked it up and put it back on the seat, for this she was charged and the courts upheld the charge. I have a hard time bu...

You can request disclosure at any time, even at the trial, the problem is that since you did not ask for it earlier, any delays because of it will count against you and not the crown, thus if you were to try and file a 11b motion, it would not count towards it.
Also, generally speaking JP's do not like it when they see you have not done anything until two weeks before trial.

Re: Court date - How to tell if Officer is in court?
Requesting a translator when one truly does not need it is nothing but waste of court resources and hiking our taxes. A friend of mine received a seat belt ticket up north, he was advised by an agent to try asking for a translator and given the jurisdiction the court was in, it would be impossible for the court to find some one who speaks his language. When he showed up to court, he found out a translator was brought in from Ottawa for his case only. So the province paid the travel expenses plus hotel for two night and his time for a 20 minute service. Needless to say, he plead guilty, I think...
