Re: Speeding ticket for going 60km in 50km zone. Worried about insurance increase :(
Thanks Zatota, this is very helpful. Interesting how these things work. I will have to give it some thought..without knowing the court date I will have a hard time ensuring I can find someone to act on my behalf. Anything past September should be a non-issue. Would you know what the average wait time for trial? Thanks so much to both you and argyll for taking the time to provide the info!

Re: insurance renewals
argyll, that's very interesting. my objections to participating were strictly 'gut feel' and i'm glad to see some concrete pitfalls. I didn't even bother to try to find out what algorithm they would be using, it just gives me goosebumps just to think how easy it would be to use that feature against a client. It's naive to think that it is practical to stay within speed limit (which seems to be pretty much determined by the city at a throw of a dart) all the time. I agree there are people who are a danger to others on the road but ironically police seems to be concentrating on daytime drivers w...

Thanks agryll, your reply had exactly the info I was looking for. So you're saying there will be an opportunity to just go and pay the ticket as if I never asked for a trial? Won't the prosecutor/judge question that and raise/add fines for their trouble? good point about the time, but..can I get a friend or family member to act on my behalf?

Re: insurance renewals
Hey admin, thanks. Yes, I know sometimes that works but not always. Believe me, I shop around for my insurance, to the point where I think I became allergic to insurance, haha

Re: insurance renewals
dude, may i ask what insurance company you're with? how is it that you had to prove your innocence, I thought they had to prove your guilt! I've seen offers for the app that monitors your driving and I can't say I am excited about yet another surveillance coming into my life, discount or not.

Re: insurance renewals
bobajob, thanks for posting, I was looking for insurance impact as I just got one minor (10KM over) speeding ticket, first one ever and I am concerned about the increase. Is the increase 5-10% every year or just a one time thing that carries for several years? How many years did it take for your ticket to come off the books?

Re: Speeding ticket for going 60km in 50km zone. Worried about insurance increase :(
Thank you Zatota. Yes, the officer said I was going 71. I didn't think so but then I don't keep my eyes peeled to the speedometer and I was passing another car at the time. My understanding is that 10km over means no demerit points but at 21 over there would. As you said, if I decide to contest the ticket and lose, 71 is likely to be used so contesting would only be worthwhile if the officer didn't show up which does happen but it is a risky bet. What would happen if I asked for a court date and not show up, would the original ticket stand or would they amend the charge to 71km? If the court d...

Speeding ticket for going 60km in 50km zone. Worried about insurance increase :(
The fine is not the issue but I am worried about insurance rates. First speeding ticket in my life
Any suggestions on how to handle this? I can't afford to spend a day at the court

Re: 66 in a permanently-posted 40 kph zone/CSZ
So, part 3 would be issued immediately for serious offences but can be issued later for a ticket that was originally issued under part 1 or 2? in other words, i could be summoned to court for speeding 5km if the officer failed to file the ticket within 7 days?

daggx, isn't part 3 of the POA only for serious violations? raybarrie's offence seems to fall into category 1. http://fightyourtickets.ca/law/ontario- ... ences-act/

Re: 66 in a permanently-posted 40 kph zone/CSZ
rayinbarrie, I don't know what the relay note means but my guess would be that the officer might go back to the court/judge and request that the ticket not be dismissed. Ticketcombat says ' A police officer has seven days to file all the traffic tickets he wrote.' Maybe the officer was sick or had some other issue that prevented him from filing on time. Imho. unless the officer really has it in for you he'll just let it go. So, cautiously optimistic congrats to you. Maybe some other members will be able to clarify it for you.

Re: 66 in a permanently-posted 40 kph zone/CSZ
The only trial I've seen was a disaster for the defendant but she had completely no clue what she was doing and instead of cross examining the officer she kept on repeating she wasn't going 'that fast'. It was a short trial. I was prepared but the officer didn't show so I didn't have a chance to test my defence strategy. Hopefully if you decide to go to trial you will be prepared. Ticketcombat has a mention of community safety zone here http://www.ticketcombat.com/step3/findact.php and mentions municipal by-laws. Is it possible the rsz is mentioned there? Also, maybe you can find something her...

Re: 66 in a permanently-posted 40 kph zone/CSZ
Thanks R.I. and Pepsi Being 7 days away from my 15-days-to-respond deadline, do you recommend I now forget mailing in and just go in-person to the Prov Off Court offices listed on my ticket? Will I be able to fill out any forms ahead of time (i.e. Disclosure form Pepsi pointed me to) to avoid having to re-queue when I'm there etc or do I just have to spend the time it takes filling everything in-situ? Thanks Pepsi for the tip on attending Traffic Court as a bystander, to get insight. Most people wouldn't bother and, even if they wanted to, many more wouldn't have the luxury of time (fortunate...

Re: 66 in a permanently-posted 40 kph zone/CSZ
You might find the sample disclosure form mentioned here http://www.ticketcombat.com/sitesearch.php listed under sample forms. In fact the entire site is excellent and worthwhile going through in its entirety. If you decide to do that, make sure you follow the forward arrows at the bottom of each page not just the tabs on top. Option 3 is the way to go. At worst you can negotiate a deal with the prosecution when you go to trial (they always offered a deal during the times I wen to observe court which I strongly suggest you do as well as it is a great way to prepare for your own case) and at be...

Re: Test drove without insurance...
OPS Copper, thanks for the clarification. I didn't see any mention of summons just the ticket and didn't research fines. If it was summons my comments re contesting are irrelevant.
