Bicycles Riding Peloton Style
Sorry if this has been answered; I did a couple of searches and could not find this topic.
We're into prime bike riding season. I ride my bike a lot and I see a lot of groups out there. Some groups I see ride single file and others ride "peloton" style. (That is, in ranks with several riders abreast in each row.) Fortunately for me, I'm much to ...

Sooner or later someone in this province is going to die from something that wasn't prevented because he or she didn't see a doctor because there is no doctor patient privilege. Whatever happened to doctors trying to help patients instead of working for Big Brother.

Re: Hit a bike, charged with Careless Driving
First of all, where exactly was the cyclist? Was he actually in the crosswalk or was he lawfully proceeding through the intersection. (If I'm on my bike on the road and ahead of a car and proceeding straight through the intersection, I do have the right of way.)
Second (assuming that the cyclist was in the crosswalk), you still have a problem ...

Is it really true that there are no demerit points for offenses committed on a bicycle in Ontario? Do such offenses appear on your driver's license abstract? I assume that an offender would be subject to the same fines as a car driver for the same offense?

Out of curiosity, how much damage was done to (a) your vehicle (b) the vehicle you directly struck (c) the truck 5 feet in front of that? Also, your brakes were in good working order?

How? How did you manage to connect with a stop sign with your left fender? Was the stop sign controlling you or controlling cross traffic? Was it on some kind of island? Generally speaking, the left front part of the car is the least likely to contact an immobile object.

We had a JP here issue witness warrants for all the missing witnesses. We had a grand old time going and arresting and taking them to jail. All these people who were to busy sure made time when the spent 18 hours in jail waiting for court. We also made sure that we attended their places of work to arrest them. I'm glad you're sober; I'm not the least bit glad you're saddled for life. We all want law 'n' order. And punishment 'n' deterrent. OTOH, what we really want in the end is safe roads and, in the words of Charles Dickens:

Cross Hashed Lines Separating HOV Lanes
The signs along HOV lanes admonish us not to enter or exit these lanes except at marked points. Assuming that there are flashing lights on a vehicle stopped on the left side of the highway, is it lawful to ignore these signs in order to obey this [move, where possible] section of the act? (By the way, is it normally an actual offense to ignore ...

If you have nothing to hide, why be confrontational and non cooperative.
Because this isn't a police state where police can do / ask anything they want.
Some Officers occasionally need to be reminded of that.
Then you might get that unwated attention....

Hi taikora,
Can you elaborate a little bit. If the speed limit is 100, you were likely on a controlled access highway with multiple lanes in each direction. Were you alone in the car? What lane were you traveling in when the boggy latched on to your bumper and stuck like glue? What was the road lighting like? What was traffic like? Did you change ...

I'm not 100% sure. I blew up both photos (with pretty crappy software -- I'm sure theirs is much better). I think that it is possible that they took the upper picture and cropped it (on the left side) just slightly to the left of the trunk deck lid. lots of consented searches get tossed in court. The man above is right, even if they find something it will likely get thrown out. Consent is usually determined to have been given under duress. (The guy had a gun, how could i say no?).

Those hairpin turns are sick. Drifting on the rims (starting at around 6.05) is not featured in the current Ford Fiesta commercial.

If I ask to search and he consents I am doing just that.

Besides if anything is found and he is charged the courts will most likely toss the search anyways.

IMO, the only acceptable way to phrase this is: "May I search your car? You have the right to say no and, if you do, there will be no consequences."
