Regarding "No Trucks" signage
Wasn't sure where to put this, so figured here was my best bet. I have a question regarding the rules behind the no truck signs you see on side streets, and can't seem to find any information on it. The hta doesn't say anything that i could see. Basically, it was my understanding that those no truck signs reffered to heavy commercial trucks, such as 5 ton trucks or greater (that you need a commercial license to operate). I work for one of the big well known courier companies, and one of my co-workers was telling me the other day he was driving down a side street that has one of those signs (it...

Re: RIDE program, your rights, weigh in
I'm not fully understanding what the argument against ride checks is. They are there to make the roads safer.... I have a right to drive in public roadways and not be wrecked by an intoxicated driver. The program was started, I'm assuming, because of public outcry to do something about impaired drivers and a high accident/fatality rate from it (as it is sponsored by madd)? All you have to do is roll your window down and say "No" to the officer when he asks if you have been drinking, and take the pamphlet. Do you really have to get so butthurt about it that you have to give him a hard...

Do you routinely drive intoxicated or something? What's the point of being a dick?

Re: Breathalyzer Test
Just like how police don't have ticket quotas but are expected to write a certain number of tickets per shift to show they're working, right?Simon Borys wrote:Police are not "obligated" to give you the breathalyzer if you admit to consuming. Like everything else, that is discretionary.
So when you were a police officer, if a driver admitted to you that they had had something to drink, would you not do it just to be sure? If I was a cop I would, better be safe than sorry. Particularily if I was running a ride check and it was my primary focus of the night

Re: Has the standard for 11(b) changed?
mnstrcck is right. I did that with a red light ticket I received September 2010. My trial was set for July 2011. They didn't give me disclosure until 2 days before the court date so my paralegal had the trial moved on their onus (they didn't provide us enough time review the evidence, or something like that). Trial was moved to January 2012. OTT filed an 11b for me, and when they went into the court room on that date it was thrown out.

Re: Breathalyzer Test
The only thing that shows up on your driving record are convictions. As to whether it'll be flagged under your name in the popo computer I don't know. I'd personally proceed with that assumption. And FYI, if you admit to having even a sip of alcohol, the police are obligated to breathalyze you.

If you go to court you could possibly get it dropped to the lesser charge, which would be no points and a smaller fine.

Re: Driving protocol
Good point actually. Last November I almost collided with another car that tried to cut across the bullnose area on the switch off heading to the express from the collectors. He hit the median and spun out right in front of me, I missed hitting him by inches.hwybear wrote:I would rather see the move/merge over 2km before and see them "fidgetting waiting" than the 200m and less lane cutters from left to right across 3 lanes and just going across the "bullnose" area of the ramp!manwithaplan wrote: If you're dumb enough to get in the slow lane 2 km before the exit, that's your problem. .

Re: Driving protocol
I hear that. When you're in the slow lane, your obeying the law by doing the speed limit. When people start tail gating me at that point, I start slowing down slowly (safely, I should add). Doesn't do them any favours, so they go around. Problem solved. I've covered my ass (literally and figuratively). I should add - this is especially common on the 407. I'll be killing time at work and set the cruise to 105, and I always get cars riding me in the slow lane (trying to hurry off to the next exit). I don't stress it. If you're dumb enough to get in the slow lane 2 km before the exit, that's your...

Yeah if I were you I'd definitely show up to court. It would be easier to explain to your boss that you have to take a day off, than to explain to your boss why you missed 6 weeks of work.....

Re: Trial Next Month
Firstly, if your son got a ticket for 15 over, why did you post in the 30-49 over forum? Secondly, it sounds like the cop took several different readings of the speed. And judging from those readings, he probably gave your kid a break and lowered it so he wouldn't lose points (you might want to ask your kid to clarify). If that's the case then you're probably not going to have much luck in court unless the cop doesn't show. If the 65/40, 68/40, and 66/40 refers to him doing those speeds in the 40 zone, and the cop did drop, then what do you have to bargain with? The cop already gave him a brea...

What are the penalties for driving without a license and/or insurance?
And hey, during the part of your first video where you're on the highway in J.burg, are those two, close together overhead structures with bright purplish light the speed cameras? Not exactly hard to spot, lol. Kind of like a speed bump for people going triple digit speeds.

Re: Careless Driving - no light, skidded right turn, no acci
What does speed have to do with the ticket itself? Careless Driving doesn't have to do with speed specifically, although in many cases speed is a factor in the event that causes a CD ticket to be issued.
You might be able to get it pled down to a lesser charge, or you might not, nobody can say for certain. Your best bet would be to contact a paralegal/lawyer to help you out.
