My wife last week got nabbed doing 89 in a 60 zone. This is her first ticket of any kind in almost 20 years. Any suggestions on what we should do? Pay it, fight it, plead guilty with a reason? Thanks for your help.

More details please...

When, where, how, mobile radar? Laser? Other vehicles present?

29 over sounds like it was reduced...what was the recorded speed?

See my post in one of the other threads here about R. v. Wannamaker.

If she pleads guilty with an explanation, the demerit points and conviction go on her record as though she'd just paid it. The fine may be reduced, but unless there are extenuating circumstances, that's rare.

If you fight it, you then have several options, including plea-bargaining to a lesser offence (e.g. speeding 15 km/h over), going to court and having a trial, etc. The other thing you can do is see how good the case is against her, which would give you an idea of how to proceed (in other words, after you get a trial date, make a disclosure request).

More details would definitely be helpful... In the mean time, here's a primer: www.ticketcombat.com
