Is This Sign Legal?

Unread post by curiousaboutsigns »

Sign in question - 50 km/h ahead.

The sign had an arrow on top, the number '50' , but there was no 'km/h'. Can it be argued in court that it is not legal, therefore, I did not have adequate time to slow from an 80 zone once I entered a 50 zone?

Thanks

it is a warning sign of 50 ahead.

What are you asking?

If the 'KM/H' is not on the sign can it be argued that it is not a legal sign, meaning, I was not given proper warning that the speed was going to drop?

Signs are covered under the Highway Traffic Act, Regulation 615

The KM/H tabs on speed limit signs are optional, and they're still valid without it. Also, to the best of my understanding, there is no requirement to give advance notice of a speed limit change. As long as there is a posted sign where the limit actually changes advising you of the new speed, it's legal.
