got 119 in 80 zone speeding ticket and just received officer's notes. he tested the radar as follows:

Powerup/Display: Pass/PMO (or PNO or PWO)

Test: Pass/PMO

Road Test - SB 10Hwy/PMO

there is nothing about tuning forks. the manufacturer's test instructions they sent me also do not mention tuning forks. does that radar require a test with tuning forks? they are part of the equipment

thanks

No tuning forks. All tests now are electronic and internal.

vamosrafa;

2004 called, they want their tuning forks back. :lol:

Seriously though, tuning forks have not been required to test radar units in Canada for about the last 6 years. You either have US manual pages or old pages.

I agree, tuning fork test is not required.

In fact, the officer did a "road test," where he drove down the road and measured the radar readout versus the calibrated speedometer of the patrol vehicle. He did the test on the southbound lanes of highway 10. That's more accurate than a tuning fork would be in any event, so both an internal and external test were done. That's sufficient to prove the device was working properly, if the tests were done before and after the stop (did not have to be immediately before or after, could've been beginning of shift/end of shift, for example).
