I broke my foot and I have not been driving for the last 3 weeks. My insurance slip expired 2weeks ago but the new slip was in my glove compartment for over a month, until it took effect. My friend has been using my car as she has been doing my errands. In a random check, she was pulled over and she showed them my expired slip, which expired June 6th, and not aware that I had a valid one in the glove box.

She was given a ticket under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act 3(1).

Is there any argument here to challenge this ticket?

Some jurisdictions, particularly busier ones, will simply withdraw the charge if you can show the Crown you had valid insurance at the time of the stop. Technically your friend still committed the offence of not providing proof of this at the time of the stop, but I think at the very least the Crown would offer a reduced fine in exchange for a guilty plea. The only exception is if your friend was pulled over for another offence and given a break (i.e. stopped for speeding but given the $65 insurance ticket instead of the $110 speeding ticket).
