I never received any notice about how much the violation cost, and to be honest, I totally forgot about it. I just went through a miscarriage in November, and dealing with that and being on disability, the ticket was the last thing on my mind. But, I was floored when I received this letter. When I went on the website to pay the violation it says it had been sent to a collection agency, and the fee was over 800! I don't have that kind of money, I haven't worked since the miscarriage, and haven't even received a check from disability. I don't know what to do...any suggestions?

NOTE: This is a new thread created to allow for a discussion specific to this issue.

Your situation is unfortunate.

A couple of things have to occur for you to get your licence back, if that's what you want/need to do in the near future. As for the collection agency, you could call them and let them know you intend to pay it, however at this point you cannot due to your circumstances. Alternatively, there are some organizations out there that give some guidance on how to deal with collection agencies. However, that's really outside the scope of this forum.

If you want your licence back, all of the outstanding fines must be paid in full, including a Licence Reinstatement Fee. The Reinstatement Fee is $150, but that comes after you've dealt with the fine for the seatbelt infraction. That must be dealt with first. Would I be correct in saying that the seatbelt conviction is the only one on your record?

Yes, it is the only thing on my record. I have a perfect record otherwise. I don't can't believe how out of hand this has gotten, it's really ridiculous. Thank you for this help
