Medical Suspension Due To Sycope. Is The Opp Required To Warn You Of Suspension?
Long story short. I was on hwy 402. Drinking water as I cruise home. I started coughing really really hard, then choked and passed out. Of course i totalled my car. No one else was involved. I was sent to the er to get checked out and everything was fine. It was a one time event... Not rocket science. If you can't breathe you pass out. The officer did not ever warm me I might be suspended for medical and also charged me with careless. I went to my doctor and of course now I'm seeing a cardiac specialist that might take up to six months. So while I try to satisfy the ministry I'm healthy, I may lose my job because I need a license. I guess my question is what qualifications does an officer have to pull my license based on medical. Also, I was never left any contact info except for what was on the ticket. Any ideas as to if or what I could do to be reinstated quicker and if I can go back on the lack of info provided by the opp?

The officer didn't suspend your license.
Doctors in Ontario are required by law to inform the MTO if a patient has a certain condition. There's a list of them. Passing out/blacking out would be one of them. Whatever doctor you saw at the emergency room likely passed on that information which got you the medical suspension.
The MTO then suspends your license until a doctor can clear you. They want to make sure it's an isolated incident and that you're not going to pass out behind the wheel.
There is nothing you can do except fulfill all your appointments and finish them as quick as they can be done. It's not a quick process by any means. Even when they send in the final paperwork, it may still take several weeks for them to review your case.
If your appointments are going to take 6 months, then you will most definitely have to find other forms of transportation. There's no way around it, unfortunately.

Thanks for the response. Believe or not, according to the info I got from the ministry my suspension was filed by the officer. In the end it makes no difference who filed it.

I didn't even realize officers could make a report until I just looked it up. You're probably correct, that's my mistake. This is the first time I've heard it being filed by an officer. In any case, the person filling them out has an obligation to report it. Again, they are just reporting it. Ultimately, the ministry decides whether to issue the suspension or not.
I wish I had good news for you, but I don't. Medical suspensions will take however long they will need to take.
When someone with no prior conditions mentions they've passed out, you will likely be without a license for awhile. This is an issue that gets posted quite frequently here. As you already know, they'll need to test for practically everything as it's the only way to confirm it was likely an isolated incident. With nothing to go on, you'll be doing tests for awhile.
6 months sounds long, but in terms of medical suspensions, that would probably be a pretty good outcome. It's not uncommon for these to go a lot longer, but that's totally dependent on the condition.
Good luck.

Thank you. I'm going to push on the system.
