Failure To Remain ...help

i was recently involved in an accident involving a cyclist i panicked and left and later went to police. ive been on the phone with the police with regards to getting some belongings out of it and they have now told me they are waiting for a warrant for the vehicle? and is still on hold is this standard ??? whats going on? please help
