Passed A Flashing School Bus Stupid Mistake

Unread post by daisy »

It was my own dumb fault. Question how long do I have to wait until I get a ticket through the mail? I feel physically sick about this, There was even a cop car in front of me, he didnt stop either. I realise its a huge mistake, one I will never make again. Please can someone tell me how long I have to wait :(.

The fact that you committed the offence doesn't mean you'll necessarily be charged. For the charge to be laid, the bus driver would have to obtain and record your licence plate and vehicle description. If the matter is reported, it will likely be a few days before the ticket is mailed.

Also in this case, while it will be an expensive fine, it will not affect your driver record nor your insurance. The reason: The bus driver or a witness at the scene must have identified you as the driver in order for you to be charged as such. If they only have the vehicle licence plate number, they can only charge the owner... so your driver record is not affected, and consequently, your insurance.

In terms of limitation periods, a school bus ticket must be issued to the owner within 23 days of the offence (O/Reg 468/05 s. 1(1)). A driver, if identified, must be issued a Part 1 ticket within 30 days of the offence (POA s. 3(3)) and a Part 3 summons within 6 months (POA s. 76(1)).

NOTHING I SAY ON HERE IS LEGAL ADVICE.

Is this like a red light camera ticket?

If bus driver reports the license plate number, will car owner get infraction points?

Yes, it is like a red light camera ticket. The owner cannot get demerit points if the plate is all that's reported.

And also no conviction, thus no insurance hikes... right?
