Bc Enacts Its Own Stunt Driving Law
Following Ontario's lead...
The province of British Columbia just unveiled stunt driving laws that, in some respects, make ours look relaxed. Set to take effect on September 20, anyone in BC going 40 km/h or more over the speed limit will face an immediate, 7-day impoundment of their vehicle for the first offence... but this is the tip of the iceberg.
If a second offence occurs within a two-year period, it will result in an immediate, 30-day impoundment of the vehicle. If a third or subsequent offence occurs, it is a 60-day impoundment of the vehicle. There are also substantial fines and, because insurance in British Columbia is public, you get totally smoked. They were waiting until the Ontario Court of Appeal clarified everything... then they put it in effect.
As this is also in place in certain countries in Europe (the Netherlands, for example), it won't be long before several more provinces and a few US states start adopting the idea of impounding vehicles of excessive speeders. ($5 says Ohio is the first US state to do it.)

Ohio has long been the US state with the heaviest traffic enforcement. The old joke was that if you drop a coin in Ohio, it will hit three State Troopers before it reaches the ground. They will stop - and ticket - for as little as 3 MPH over the limit. So, given their anti-speed tendencies, I figured they'd probably be the first ones to impose something like that. They particularly like to target out-of-state drivers.
