“Antique Radar Detector...”

I picked up a brand new (old stock) Fuzzbuster a while ago at auction (wopping $5!!) and I want to mount it on the dash of my old GTO as a cool accessory when I show it at car shows. But I'm not sure if it's legal or not.

Here's my thoughts:

- It is early 70's technology (x-band) so it won't detect modern police radar. That's assuming no police force uses the old x-band frequency.

- Though it is obviously designed to defeat police radar, would an officer not have to make it work at the traffic stop before I could be convicted?

I'm considering "neutering" it by removing the in'ards, but really don't want to mangle this perfectly mint unit if I don't have to. It would really suite the "theme" of the car if I could do it legally some how.

you can gut it, still would ruin it though! leave it in the box in your closet!

I do not have to make it work at roadside at all. As long as I can convince the court the purpose of the device. Some SMWD I can not get to work ever again, as I have "cut the cord"....others have been just the "display" as the horn portion is hidden in the front of the car.

This of course goes with my experience, I average 100-150 seizures a year, my tops was 284 seizures in one year. I am very familiar with the various products, obviouslt conduct research on other sites

...now back to the antique.....if it says radar detection or something on the side, I would be inclined to say you could be charged and seized.

Easy remedy, put it in the trunk until arrival at the show, put it back after. In common sense that it is for that purpose, although still illegal to possess outside a sealed box anywhere in any vehicle.

Your option would be to gut it carefully removing the screws, then it is absolutely useless.....it just looks like a big old time radio anyway, and would it even fit on a dash

If you have it in your trunk, how is any cop going to find it?????????? Stuff it in the box on the way there and put it back when your done. If a cop wants to bust you at a car show.....he's going to have to prove why he's not seeing the forces shrink. Just my opinion and this "bears" no inciuation to anyone on this board.

Ya but..... I kinda' wanted to display it permanently as a throw-back to the early seventies (would suit my '73 GTO) the way fuzzy dice suit some 50's cars. I'll see if the in'ards can be gently removed sometime. For now, it's just a conversation piece on my office shelf.

The silly thing is, it is an "X-band only" receiver. From what I've read at RadarRoy.com, no police force in Ontario uses X-band any more. So what's the flippin' problem?

I knew of an old timer in the OPP who still used pacing to catch speeders, having personally measured distances between every landmark on a particular stretch of highway. No fancy radar for him.

Some people are nostalgic for equipment or methods they like and are familiar with. What are the chances there's a cop out there in Ontario who still likes his x band? 'Bout the same as the chances there's a guy out there all nostalgic for a fuzz buster.

Book'm is definitely an original. Wonder if that thing would overload a Spectre????????????
