Turning Right Onto A Merge Lane

Unread post by snowman15 »

I was involved in an accident in at an intersection while I was turning right onto a road, into a merge lane. There is a yield and a merge lane onto road I was turning on. I hit the car in front of me as I was glancing over my shoulder to merge onto the road. Traffic was sparse and the car I hit was stopped in the merge lane. He had plenty of room to continue on in the merge lane. That being said, I am not denying that I was in the wrong but would like to see the charge reduced to something less. I haven't had an accident in 27 years!

My question is: Do I plea 'not guilty'? And go to trial?

or

'Guilty with an explanation'? ..... If I chose this route....is it possible to get the charge reduced to something lesser?

Any help will be appreciated!!

No, because you're pleading guilty to the charge as is. You can only get a fine reduction.

You'll want to select not guilty and seek a plea deal with the Crown to a lesser offence.
