Improper Right Turn Ticket

Unread post by Sasan »

Hello,

I got my first traffic ticket today. I was driving at around 5.10 p.m. (rush hour) in the University ave. Waterloo. I tried to change my lane to the very right to turn right in Weber street. However, the traffic did not let me. I stopped first vehicle behind the red light on the second lane. The first right lane in Weber street was clear and the car was making a right turn I put on right signal and turned right. Then the officer stoped me and gave ma $110 ticket for "improper right turn" with two demerit points.

I was wondering to know if I should have got the ticket or not.

My second question: Is there any way that I can clear the demerit points? (fight the ticket), although the $110 is not something easy for me either. or I should just go for the lesser fine?

Thank you for your informative reply.

The charge is correct as it's illegal to make a turn from the incorrect lane, regardless if traffic wouldn't let you in.

In terms of demerit points/fine, the only way to see about getting it reduced is to request a first attendance meeting with the Crown and see what they offer.
