Should I Pay A Parking Ticket?

Unread post by coolegg »

I have a parking ticket. My court date is scheduled 14.5 months after my request for one. The parking fine is for $60. I know that I can file for an 11b and 100% get it dismissed but then I have to take time off from work, and the process of filing an 11b is tedious.

Should I just pay it off or should I file an 11b and take time off from work to do it? I'll have to take 1 day off to file the 11b and then another day off to show up for court.

For a $60 parking ticket, I'd probably just pay it, unless you're fighting it solely for the "principle" of the thing. The main reason being the inconvenience of having to take 2 days off of work just to fight a parking ticket...

* The above is NOT legal advice. By acting on anything I have said, you assume responsibility for any outcome and consequences. *

A parking ticket won't effect your insurance so you would only be out the $60.00 if you paid. On the other hand you have sure fire win if you fight it. Do you get paid vacation days? If you do, and you weren't planing to use them for anything else, then you might as well use them to fight the parking ticket. If you don't get paid time off then you are probably going to lose more in wages then the parking ticket is worth so it might make more sense to just pay it.
