Illegal U-turn Or Not?
Hi Everyone,
New to the forum, but would greatly appreciate any advice someone has to offer. First time ever getting a ticket and I'm wondering if the ticket I got is technically correct?
I'm in Kingston and I was going East on Taylor Kidd Boulevard (see map link below), trying to turn left (North) onto Edgar street. There is a median on Taylor Kidd which ends slightly beyond the edgarintersection. This is visible on sattelite view on google maps. There is a visible No U-turn sign posted here, but I thought I was making a wide left onto edgar Street.
Needless to say I got a ticket for Prohibited Turn – Disobey Sign Traffic Tickets for 2 demerit points and 110 bucks. I was just wondering is this possible to fight given that I did not make a true U-turn where I had switched directions 180 degrees? Anyone have success with a case similar to this. If so any advice on how to prepare?
Here is the google maps link for the intersection

Looking at the street view pictures it appears the median extends well beyond Edgar Street. It certainly appears that you would have made a u-turn to access the street.

Agreed. Making that argument in court with a straight face is the real challenge.
Re: Illegal U-turn Or Not?
Thanks for the feedback everyone.
Is there anything reasonable to contest in this case? Or worthwhile to plea guilty and try having the demerit points dropped?

The courts have no control over demerit points. If you plead guilty or are convicted, demerit points are automatically assigned by MTO.
If you want to plea-bargain to a lesser charge with fewer or no demerit points, that might help you, but pleading guilty only helps with possibly getting a lesser fine.
