Following Too Closely
Doesn't the term " following " indicate that you were behind a moving vehicle? If the vehicle wasn't moving, how could you be following it?

Good question, do you wish to elaborate?
I was coming to a stop, because the cars ahead of me were stopped at a stop light. Unfortunately for me, I was wearing footwear, that I was not used to driving in, and when I stepped on the brake to stop, my boot was also pressing the gas pedal, and I bumped into the car ahead of me. There was no damage to either vehicle, but the person driving the other vehicle claimed she was injured ( which I doubt ). Since the vehicle I bumped, was not moving, how could I have been following it? Could it be perceived, that the wording of this section of the Act, is incorrect for this type of incident?
I've seen prosecutors plea bargain a Careless charge down to Following too Close in the same situation (a guy gently rear-ended a car stopped at a red). Sounds like the cop might have been giving you a break.

So, the other car was stopped and waiting and you simply did not stop in time..... You could have been charged with careless..... However, the charge does not fit...... You could consult a paralegal to see if they could work a plea...what did the other driver claim as an injury?
