Unless the cruisers get expensive deep-cycle batteries, they wouldn't want to run them down constantly as that will quickly kill the battery (five or six cycles will destroy a lead-acid starter battery).
I do hear of cruisers running out of juice, though. I remember one a while back that ran down the battery from the light bar and happened to be parked very close to some train tracks. Train came and took it out.

What would really be painful is if the cruiser had a nicad battery that had a thermal runaway.
But at least that nickel could come from Canada.
