Four Times The Posted Speed Limit

Unread post by Radar Identified »

Last night, Toronto Police stopped two cars that were racing down Martin Grove Road in Etobicoke. The speed limit there is 50. They were going 200 km/h!

On a different, but also shocking note, Thursday night a York Regional Police officer was seriously injured after she was involved in a collision while responding to an emergency call. She had her lights and siren going and was proceeding on Rutherford Road in Vaughan when a driver of a Mercedes pulled out of a shopping centre right in front of her. :x In order to avoid a collision with the Mercedes, the officer had to swerve, but unfortunately, crashed into an SUV and slammed into a telephone pole. The 19-year-old driver of the Mercedes fled the scene. She was located at her house a few blocks away, arrested and charged with careless driving and fail to remain at the scene of a collision.

It's amazing. I don't know if it's some kind of basic instinct overriding common sense but a lot of people, when they get in to a collision, they take off like a bat out of hell.

Oh yeah - that police cruiser was one of three in as many days in the GTA that got wrecked when responding to an emergency call, all of which were caused by other drivers. Toronto Police cruiser got trashed on Queen Street after the officer was going with the lights and siren on, and got cut off by another driver. Officer crashed it into a building (there was nowhere else to go). Also Peel Regional Police totalled a cruiser while proceeding through an intersection, lights and siren on, and everyone stopped except for a minivan that broadsided the cop car.
