Best to make an appointment with the justice of the peace to talk about the offense. They could tell advise you on the proceedings and what all is required of you and/or your legal defense.

Locally to myself- you can have road markings (blue pavement) or signs. That being said if you can take a picture of the confusing sign you may get the charge reduced.

Pretty much what was stated. Unless you have proof that no signs and/or road markings are there, you're going to be paying up. I've never seen a sympathetic fine reduction for this type of offense.
