Speed Signs Not On White Background & S 199 Of Hta
I remember reading on a thread here on this forum that speed signs that were not on the white background with black writing would not catch a speeding ticket? Or something of that nature, and I may be utterly bastardizing what was said here, so I'm looking to find the thread but can't. This topic came up by a relative and I didn't know if it was construction signs only, or ramp signs with the yellow background, or both - so I said nothing. Can someone here elaborate for me and point me to the area of the HTA, if any, that deals with this?
Also, Section 199 of the HTA says the following:
199. (1) Every person in charge of a motor vehicle or street car who is directly or indirectly involved in an accident shall, if the accident results in personal injuries or in damage to property apparently exceeding an amount prescribed by regulation, report the accident forthwith to the nearest police officer and furnish him or her with the information concerning the accident as may be required by the officer under subsection (3). R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 199 (1); 2002, c. 17, Sched. F, Table.
What's the amount prescribed? Why am I having trouble finding the regulations? Most are in the HTA itself, but where is the regulation pertaining to the amount prescribed?

The construction zone speed limit sign is enforceable if it has black lettering on a white background. If the background is yellow, it is an advisory sign only.

So, black letters with an orange background?
Thank you all for your help. My IE had a glitch yesterday. I couldn't click on the plus signs to the left of the act to get to the regs and thought elaws had moved them. Still, I find I'm having trouble determining which regs to select when I'm looking for something like this. There's so many (regs), and the searches I do don't turn up anything. This is where my inexperience really shows. I'm not all that good at legal research and am enrolled currently in Legal Research courses, evidence rules and advocacy courses, requiring me to get better at this. I'm frustrated. Also, Quicklaw just expired my "student" account, and I'm still a student, and I'm having no luck on Canli because of my search keywords (they obviously are missing the mark). Any practicing Paralegals on here that can offer some tips?

Unless you are target specific in a certain part of law, or specialty you will never know what is what (not being rude, it is a fact). I happen to specialize solely in traffic, so my knowledge is higher than say a detective. But on that same token, their expertise in crime is higher than mine. There are thousands of acts and laws. I'm sure that is why lawyers specialize in drugs, impaired, family, civil, corporate etc. Have to be on your game in the respective area.
