Car Towed For "no Insurance"

Hi,

i was stopped and summoned for :

1. No current permit - I forgot to get a current one

2. Operate motor vehicle without insurance - I have insurance, but did not have my papers in the car ( the officer refused to call my insurance broker).


My car was towed


My Questions: Is it normal to tow the car?

Should I just plead guilty to the "No current permit" infraction.?

Since I did have insurance should this charge simply be dropped?

If there's no insurance, yes. It can't be legally operated on the roadway. Police are under no obligation to verify if you have insurance, the onus is on you to have proof. They're just starting to roll out a computer database where officers can verify if you have insurance, but it's still not accessible from most cruisers and not all providers are on board.

Personal decision. You may be able to get a reduced fine with a plea deal, depends how much time and effort you want to put into it.

You will have to show some sort of proof to the prosecutor that you had insurance on the date of the offence. Quite likely they will then drop the charge since there would be no prospect of conviction.
