Fail To Surrender Insurance Card

Unread post by armanig »

so i got another ticket last night..

was driving in downtown, i accidentally did a illegal left turn and cop pulled me over

asked me for insurance ownership, license, gave it to him

then he told me my insurance was expired. i forgot to put the new card in, it was like 3 days expired.

so i got a 70$ ticket for ' failing to surrender insurance card"

the cop told me that i should pick option number 3 and bring my valid insurance card and the charge would be dropped. is that correct? so i just go to the first attendance meeting at the downtown courts and they will drop the charge?

how many days do i have to wait before going to the court?

It's not guaranteed to happen, but certainly possible. I'd say it's somewhat dependent on the jurisdiction, really busy places like Toronto are more apt to simply drop the charge, other places may simply offer a reduced fine.

The set fine should be $50, and total payable $65. An incorrect fine should be considered a fatal error.
