Car Got Impounded

Unread post by bugsbunny »

Hi there,

So I was driving my dad's car and it got impounded because I got a stunt driving ticket.

My dad is out of the country and my 7 day suspension is over a day before he gets back.

Would I still be able to pick the car up? It is at York Auto

The slip I was given by the cop has my name on it as well, as I am under the insurance.

I don't see why you couldn't, provided that you've got your licence back (should be mailed to you) and you've paid the licence reinstatement fee...

I believe it has to be the registered owner of the vehicle.

Husband is a tow truck driver and I believe this has come up before.

This is my understanding.

Towing companies have contracts with the cities. These tenders come up every couple years or so and the various companies will bid for the contract. Usually they spread these contracts across multiple companies based on police divisions. This determines who tows your vehicle and where it's going to go.

Police will notify the registered owner (which isn't necessarily the person driving) that their vehicle has been seized.

The owner will be required to attend the relevant police division with identification where they will receive an authorized release form. If they can't verify you as the owner, they'll deny you your form.

You'll need this form to pick up your vehicle from the designated tow yard. No form, no car.

Hi there,

It turns out I could get it out of the impound. I did not receive my license or my temporary license at the time of release; however, my sister who has a g2 and is under the insurance as well as living under the same address as the owner (my dad) was able to get the car released.

Thank you.

I recently received a temporary license, and assuming I had to pay my reinstatement fee in order to get my license back I went to the DMV's office to pay the $150 but I found out I didn't have to pay anything and my permanent license was going to be mailed to me.

I thought reinstatement fee was a mandatory fee?

I thought so as well. Go figure.
