Going To Court On Someone's Behalf

Unread post by kriles »

So, long story short. My boyfriend has a court date this Tuesday but he has school. He can't miss 4 classes in the entire semester or he will get kicked out of his program. Of course he has at least 4 classes a day, every day. Can he send someone on his behalf? He doesn't have the money to hire a paralegal or anything and the court date is in 3 days.

Yes, a friend or family member is allowed to represent you but they are not allowed to accept payment.

Okay, awesome, so I should be allowed to go in for him right?

Yes you can go in for him. Get him to give you a signed letter stating that he authorizes you to act on his behalf, just in case anybody questions whether you have his permission to represent him.
