Trial Location

Unread post by taylor_m »

Hi,

I'm new to all of this traffic ticket stuff, but I was wondering if it was possible to arrange a trial at a court outside of the jurisdiction where the ticket was issued. I am being told that since speeding is a provincial offence, I can fill out an intention to appear in court in any city in the province. Is this true?

Yes and no. If you don't live in the jurisdiction you were ticketed in, then the back of your ticket should have a mail-in option. Otherwise, you can go to any Provincial Offences Office in the province to request a trial.

So, if there is a mail in option on the back of the ticket, then I HAVE TO mail in to request a trial? I don't live in the area where I received the ticket, so my plan was to have it in my home city.

What if this happens in Quebec or another province. Do you still lose points, can you be fined under ontario traffic laws (172).
