Plate Permit Expired And Driving
my brother was pulled over as he was driving to renew his plate permit. His insurance was also expired. He is heading to court tomorrow and i was wondering what he could expect. Is this the 200 to 1000 or 6 months in jail
thanks

Expired Plates And Insurance
Well your brother is facing a large fine. The No Insurance conviction will cost him a minimum $5000 fine. He should be prepared to show the court his financial situation and be able to prove that if the court imposes the $5000 fine it will cause undue hardship on him and/or his family. As far as the expired plates go he will face a much smaller fine, he should ask for the $50-$60 range.
As always, when facing charges of such a serious nature, one should consider speaking to a professional about the different options available.
How was he going to get a plate permit without proof of insurance?

Thank you for your response. My brother drives two different cars, one for summer driving and one for winter. Just wondering if this could effect the amount of the fine. His summer insurance had expired around Oct 07 and because of being unemployed did not insure his winter car. When he decided he needed the car to go to job interviews that is when he was going to get insurace. The car needed to go to Drive Clean to get the plate permit. Could this impact on the fine. Thanks

After speaking with him, he said he was headed to a drive clean, and then was going to renew his insurance and then get the permit.
