Right Turn On Red Light While Left Trun Green Signal Is On

Unread post by LWNTHK »

My friend tried to turn right in Warden and Hwy 7 after he stopped completely on red light. He has given a ticket because the left turn green signal is on when he turn right on red light. It doesn't matter there is no traffic and safe to do so. Is it true that driver cannot turn right on red light if the left turn signal is on???

That is not to say that you cannot get the ticket get thrown out on a technicality, like the exact fine being wrong, any other major mistakes on the ticket, and proper paperwork filed by the cop and the prosecution, or even a delay between now and the date of court can all play in your favour.

I bet 99.9% of drivers in Ontario are unaware of this.

Maybe 99.999% I had no idea! Good to know.

Thanks, hwybear.

Wow! Now we know. I know that ignorance of law is no excuses but I think we need to be educated, not by the way of punishment (ticket).

The set fine for "Green arrow — fail to proceed as directed" (SS 144(14)) is $85, plus $20 victim surcharge, and $5 court fee, up to a total of $110. If your friend was charged anything else, he can simply ignore the ticket. Unless it was in the "community safety zone", where the set fine would be $120, and the total payable $150 ($25 VS + $5 court fee).

I think my friend is too busy to go to the court. He may just pay for the fine. I posted it here just to understand the issue since I never heard of it.

Thanks for the inputs.
